Solo in Vietnam:

Hey there, solo travelers! I'm your guide to conquering Vietnam on your own terms. Back in 2012, I left Canada to travel the world solo for unlimited time. Once in Vietnam, I loved this place so much that I decide to stop my world trip to live here for ever. I real thing travelling solo is the best way to experience a country and no need to worry about getting stcuk, not every solo trip will keep you here forever like me ;)

Here is some tips to enjoy your solo trip in Vietnam

Making Buddies:

If you are very social and worry to feel lonely while travelling solo, you just need to book Hhostels with a social buzz and you are sure that you will make many new friends. Search for ones with bars or known for their friendly vibes. And because you are in Vietnam you can even choose to take a private rooms in hostels. Liek this you have the best of both worlds – social interaction and solo chill time.

And aother good way to make new friend is to visit busy restaurants and engage a conversation with locals or fellow travelers. In addition, you are always on the safe side for the freshness and quality when restaurant is busy cue for quality and safety.

Food tours are fantastic too, especially solo! Join group tours with a local guide is a great way to start your trip in Vientam.
You’ll visit a few restaurants in the area, have a bit of a historical and cultural lesson on what you’re eating. In bonus, you'll get to chat with a local who can recommend activities and things to see in the area as well as all the must try speciality in each part of the country. Nothing like a recommendation from a local! Honestly, food tours are one of my absolute most favourite things to do when I’m travelling solo.

Bonus? I might even be your guide in Ho Chi Minh City! Been leading food tours since 2014 as a part time hobby, Vietnamese food is one of the main reason why I call this country home. Let me share the passion, the flavors, and my personal favorites with you. Not available? No worries! I have top-notch foodie friends in every major city. Just ask, and I'll hook you up with the best. Remember, solo doesn't mean lonely in Vietnam. Food tours are your ticket to connection, culture, and culinary bliss! 🇻🇳 Or the fastest and easiest way to book a good tour is with this link : https://getyourguide.tp.st/CluFTZHq

Peaceful Me-Time:

Travelling solo also mean to take time for your self. You can carry a book or notebook for those "don't-disturb me" moments. Remember, solo travel doesn't mean constant interaction. Some peace and quiet can be golden.

An aother good way to enjoy peaceful quiet moment is by escaping the big cities. Venture beyond the big names. Explore Ha Giang, Sa Pa, Hue, Nha Trang, or countryside gems like Mu Cang Chai, Ninh Binh, Phong Nha, or Kon Tum. These offer unique experiences and encounters with other solo travelers seeking serenity. Check hostel reviews or seek advice to find the perfect quiet haven.

Transportation Tips:

  • In each destination : Download the Grab app for convenient and transparent rides. Taxis are also an option, but ensure they use the meter. Opt for reputable companies like Mai Linh or Vinasun.

  • Between destinations: You need to know that distance are big and land transport are slow, so if you have a long distance you can consider to take a flight instead of a train/bus/car. Example Da Nang to Saigon is 1h flight or 18h train. Mainly is you want to fit many destinations in a short trip, flight will make it more realistic... But if you have time to go slow you can easily arrange bus or train with your host or by yourself using service like : https://12go.tp.st/Zk8Im6fL

  • Night bus : Sometime, to save money for long distance you may take the night bus. Even if travelling in Vietnam is generaly very safe, still is better keep valuables with you on your daypack when you take overnight transport. If you prefer extra security, buddy up with hostel mates for watching over each other during night trip. Many backpackers follow similar routes, making it easy to connect with others.

  • Rent a motorbike : If you prefer to travel off the beaten path and avoid the tourist buses you can rent a motorbike! Vietnam's countryside is a two-wheeled paradise. Wind in your hair, open road ahead - no fixed itineraries, just pure freedom. Discover hidden beaches, stumble upon local festivals, and feel the genuine spirit of Vietnam. But make sure you have an international license and ride smart. Put your helmet on, respect the rules, and enjoy the ride! Contact me if you need tips to buy/rent a nice motorbike at good price :)

Bargaining Savvy:

  • Negotiate with a Smile: Don't be afraid to haggle, but do it with a smile! Remember, prices are relative, so offer what you're comfortable with and be open to negotiation. It's a win-win for both sides.

Crossing the Road:

  • Follow the Flow: Crossing Vietnamese streets might seem daunting, but here's the secret: walk confidently behind a local and match their pace. Don't hesitate, and the traffic will flow around you.

Picture this: sunrise chasers, midnight noodle dives, and hidden beaches - all on YOUR terms! That's the magic of solo Vietnam. Ditch the compromise and embrace the pure flexibility. Wanna sleep in? Do it! Craving street food at 2 am? No sweat! It's your time, your pace, your Vietnam.

But wait, there's more! Solo travel isn't just "me-time." It's a connection magnet! Hostels with cool vibes become instant friend zones, food tours connect you with locals and foodies, and the most unexpected conversations can blossom anywhere. Imagine sharing stories with fellow travelers over steaming bowls of pho, or learning about local life from a friendly shopkeeper. Solo opens doors you never knew existed!

Remember: Solo isn't lonely, it's about freedom, adventure, and unexpected connections. Vietnam awaits with open arms, breathtaking landscapes, and friendly faces. So grab your backpack, book your flight, and get ready for an unforgettable journey!
